There is a link between evangelism and worship. The need of the human heart is to behold Jesus. Jesus explained the importance of worship to the woman at the well. When she asked him about the kind of water Jesus offered her, He answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4:13-14
Then Jesus spoke to her about worship: “You Samaritans worship what you do not
know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. Yet a time is coming and has now
come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the
Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must
worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:22-24
Jesus
was speaking to her about the need of the human heart, and that worshipping Him
was the answer to that need. Jesus prophetically and gently pointed out her sin
that she was living with a man. But the woman did not receive the word with condemnation
instead it opened her eyes to the fact that Jesus was the Messiah and she told many
others of this.
Let’s remember to engage others in conversation about the one who meets the need of the human heart. Let’s point them to Jesus and to worship. In our worship services, let us remember the lost by giving them an invitation to receive the Lord. Last, let us be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit when we are in conversation with those that do not know the Lord. Let’s follow our Lord’s example in winning the lost.
