Make it Your Ambition to Be Small

Therefore let anyone who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.
1 Corinthians 10:12 ESV

Lucifer or Satan became enamored with his beauty when heaven was his home.  He attributed his gifting and calling to himself.  He no longer gave glory to the One who rightfully deserved it.  Then he was corrupted and fell to the earth.  We can fall into the same sin that Satan embraced – pride.  It is insidious.  It is evil.

When God leads us to a season of success in any area, we must be cautious.  If we are not careful, we will attribute our ability to stand in victory to our own doing.  This is very dangerous.  Remember pride comes before a fall (Proverbs 16:18).

Let's take inventory of our lives and ask the Lord to show us any areas of our hearts where pride may have a foothold.  Let's humble ourselves before the Lord.  When we do, we will be secure in our hearts as we depend upon Jesus.  When we humble ourselves, we put ourselves in the place where our Lord will lift us up in His timing and in His way.  When He does, let's remember to give Him all the glory.

When we remain humble before the Lord, His grace abounds in our lives.  Isn't that what we desire?  The Bible says that God gives grace to the humble but He opposes the proud (1 Peter 5:5).  The Scripture also  says we should clothe ourselves with humility.  So let's put on this attribute.  It is highly attractive to God our Father.  Jesus Himself is meek and lowly of heart.  We should make it our ambition to be small in our own estimation and give the glory to the Lord.  If we do, we will find that God's grace surrounds us like a strong summer breeze.

One of His Sheep

I am one of His sheep
On my own, I am not much to brag about
But Jesus is my Shepherd
I am intimately acquainted with Him
I know His voice
I know its tone, its rhythm

The voice of a stranger is foreign to me
Like a cap that does not fit a jar
Like a square peg in a round hole
I will not entertain it

I cling to my Shepherd
He is welcome in my heart
Like a key that unlocks treasures
Like a hand in a well-fitting glove

He leads me to green pastures
I do not want

In Him I am safe and secure and satisfied
I am one of His sheep
